Faced with high shipping costs, compressed sofas break through the siege

Since the beginning of 2024, shipping costs have been steadily climbing due to various factors. As of June 1st, the shipping cost for a 40-foot standard container from China to the West Coast of the United States has exceeded $6,500, and to Europe, it has surpassed $7,000. These numbers continue to rise.

Sofas, being large pieces of furniture, have transportation costs that constitute a significant portion of their total cost. In this context, the design of compressible sofas, which can greatly reduce shipping costs, has understandably become widely accepted.

In a previous article, I mentioned that compressible sofas can greatly increase profits due to their lower shipping costs. But how do they compare to regular sofas? Let's estimate.

Using a 40-foot standard container with a shipping cost of $7,000 as a baseline:

  • Compressed Modular Sofa: Combining modules A+4B+C to form a 4-seat sofa (Overall Product Dimensions: 304*151*91CM / 7*59.4*35.8 Inches), a 40-foot container can hold about 60 sets. The shipping cost per sofa is $117.
  • Compressed Two-Seat Sofa (Product Dimensions: 175*91*75CM / 9 * 35.8 * 29.5 Inches): A 40-foot container can hold about 298 sets. The shipping cost per sofa is only $23.5.

These calculations only account for the container's shipping cost. If we include packing, tariffs, and other fees, the cost difference becomes even more significant. Faced with rising shipping costs, compressible sofas are undoubtedly a breakthrough solution.
